This article will help familiarize you with Jamf Connect with it's purpose, what to expect and general use. If you have any questions not covered in this topic please submit a ticket with the Service Desk.
Jamf Connect is an account synchronization tool that will keep the password for your Mac and the password for your domain account the same. When you perform your 90 day password change Jamf Connect will observe this and prompt you for credentials to update your Mac so you only login with one password.
Lets Take a Look At The Jamf Connect Tool
The Jamf Connect tool can be accessed in your menu bar at the top of your screen. There are a few options available here, lets go over them.
- Connect - Manually reauthenticate to sync your password
- Change Password - Launch a web interface with instructions how to update your 5.11 account password
- Get Software - Launch Self Service. Self Service contains commonly used Applications, Printers, Updates, Bookmarks and Troubleshooting Tools
- Get Help - Launch a browser to the 5.11 Service Desk to submit a ticket, check your pending tickets, submit a service request for hardware or software or browse our self help knowledgebase
What's Changing & What To Expect
Jamf Connect will modify the behavior and experience of how you login to your machine and the options available.
The login screen is now replaced with a familiar login page with some options at the bottom and top right corner. I will cover a few of the options needing explanation
- WiFi Selection Top Right Corner - You can select and authenticate to available WiFi networks. Note: Password unprotected networks will be unavailable - See Local Login
- Local Login - If a secure WiFi or local network connection is unavailable you may login here with your domain credentials
- Refresh - Refreshes the login window during internet connectivity issue scenarios
- Help - Opens the 5.11 Service Desk to submit a ticket for login assistance. Note: An active network connection is required to use this option
Upon successful authentication, a second window will appear to synchronize your Mac password with your domain credentials.
If your local password you use to login to your Mac does not match your current domain credentials you will be prompted for the current login password.
You'll now be logged into your desktop and begin using your machine.
Exceptions
This process will be a little different in the following scenarios, a name change has been applied for your account or your local account name does not match your UserID. Do not worry, Jamf Connect takes this into consideration to make sure your account is linked properly. Here is what to expect when logging in if you fall under the above scenarios.
- Upon successful authentication you will receive a notice with the create account option. Enter your domain credential once more and select Create Account
- A window with available accounts will appear, select Connect under your account and then Create Account
-
If your local password you use to login to your Mac does not match your current domain credentials you will be prompted for the current login password
-
You'll now be logged into your desktop and begin using your machine
