BYOD Information and Setup
This document contains information regarding the technical aspect of the BYOD policy. Approved applications and management of data with the applications are explained.
Before You Begin
The company policy requires the use of approved applications for accessing various types of company data. These applications include the Outlook mobile app, Microsoft Authenticator app, as well as the suite of Microsoft Office mobile apps.
Start by Installing the Microsoft Authenticator App
The Microsoft Authenticator app is a complimentary app that allows for added security via Protection policies for the Office Suite of apps.
- Start by searching for, and installing the Microsoft Authenticator App from your devices App Store
- After Installation Do Not Sign into the App. Continue to the next section to install Outlook mobile.
Installing the Outlook mobile App
- Search for and Install Microsoft Outlook
- Open Outlook mobile and enter your Email Address
- When prompted select “Open Authenticator”
- If prompted, allow Notifications and acknowledge the data usage prompt
- Enter your password and select “Sign in”
- At the next screen select “Register”
- You will automatically be taken back to the Outlook mobile app. If prompted select “Maybe later” to adding an additional account
- The app will prompt you to “Restart the app to continue”
- Open the Outlook mobile app, you will be asked to setup a PIN
- Enter a Four Digit PIN
- Confirm the PIN
- By default Outlook will attempt to save your Outlook contacts to your phone. When prompted allow Outlook to Access your contact
- When prompted allow Outlook to Send Notifications
Syncing your 5.11 Tactical Business Contacts
Outlook can sync your business contacts that you have created along the way. By default Outlook will attempt to sync your contacts. This is optional and can be disabled if you choose. Please note, this does not sync the company address list. Only contacts that you have created in Outlook will be synced to your device.
The Contact sync setting can be found in the Outlook settings section
- Select your account in the Top-Left
- Select the “Gear” in the Bottom-Left corner
- Select your Office 365 Account from the list
- Slide the toggle next to “Save Contacts” option
Frequently Asked Questions
Why am I being asked to create a PIN to open Outlook?
To ensure security over the contents of the mobile app, a pin is required. This an additional security measure should your Phone not currently be protected by a PIN.
When opening a link in an e-mail from Outlook it says I’m asked to open it with a Managed Browser?
A Managed Browser is a company approved application capable of access web pages. The Managed Browser we are utilizing is Microsoft Edge and is required to access resources such as URL’s. Download Microsoft Edge from your device’s app store.
Can I copy text or images from my Email and paste them into my browser or text message?
Copied data can only be Pasted between company managed Applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point and Teams. Text messaging applications are not eligible.
Can I save company documents to my device?
You can save company documents to Microsoft One Drive or Microsoft SharePoint.
